One of the original selkie myths in Irish mythology tells the tale of what happens when a selkie loses her coat. A young man steals her coat and when she is unable to follow her family back into the sea, deceptively offers her assistance. He locks her coat away and over the years forces her to take his hand and bear his children. One day, when he is out, she discovers her coat and finally understands what he's done. The man returns home to meet his wife for the last time, as well as her unbridled wrath.
